REAL LIFE WITH LAN

Real life. Real lessons. Real rebuilding. Welcome to Real Life With Lan — the podcast about what happens when life doesn’t go according to plan…and you decide to build what’s next anyway. I’m Lani, aka Lan — a wife, mom of three, entrepreneur and woman rebuilding from the inside out. After 20+ years in business, sales, leadership, real estate, speaking, training and entrepreneurship, I’ve experienced wins, losses, pivots and plenty of lessons learned the hard way. Now I’m navigating a new chapter: deepening my relationship with God, rebuilding my health, finding myself again, changing my relationship with money, raising my family and learning how to turn decades of experience into opportunities in today’s digital world. We’ll talk faith, health, healing, marriage, motherhood, money, business, personal growth, food, family and the beautiful chaos in between. I’m not here because I have life figured out. I’m letting you watch me build what’s next. If you’re rebuilding too, pull up a chair. You belong here. Starting over doesn’t mean starting from zero.

All I wanted to do was take my girls to a 9 AM house tour. Instead, life had other plans! 😂
One flat tire, 40-degree weather, three unhappy girls, and a missed appointment later, I found myself laughing about my teenage years when I used to pop tires like it was a damn hobby!
I was my daddy's spoiled little girl, and my siblings were TIRED of rescuing me. Until one day, my dad decided enough was enough and made me learn how to change my own tires.
Fast-forward to today, and that same lesson came full circle. This time, I was the mama teaching my daughters something I never wanted to learn myself.
Funny how life works, huh?
In today's episode of Real Life With Lan, we're talking about the lessons our parents taught us, the things we took for granted growing up, and how sometimes the biggest lessons come from the most inconvenient moments.
❤️ Now I wanna hear from you: What's something your parents made you learn that you hated back then but appreciate today?

Have you ever looked at your relationship and wondered, "How the hell did we get here?"
You fell in love imagining a future together. Marriage, family, growing old, and having someone to lean on when life gets hard. But somewhere along the way, love got tangled up with broken promises, resentment, emotional distance, and responsibilities you thought you'd share.
In Episode 4 of Real Life With Lan, we're talking about something deeper than control: the need to feel emotionally safe in a relationship.
Sometimes the person who seems controlling is exhausted from carrying everything. Sometimes the person who shuts down learned long ago that expressing emotions wasn't safe. And sometimes two people genuinely love each other but don't recognize how their childhood experiences are affecting their relationship today.
We're unpacking the emotional baggage we bring into love, the mental load of carrying a household, broken trust, defensiveness, communication, and the difference between understanding someone's behavior and excusing it.
And listen, this isn't about blaming men or defending women. Accountability goes both ways.
Because you can love someone deeply and still feel emotionally alone.
You can share a home, children, bills, and decades of memories and still wonder why you feel more at peace by yourself.
Your childhood may explain your patterns, but it doesn't excuse the pain you keep passing on to someone else.
If you've ever felt misunderstood, emotionally exhausted, afraid to depend on someone, or tired of being the one who holds everything together, this conversation is for you.
🎙️ Real Life With Lan — real conversations about love, life, healing, accountability, and everything in between.

Have you ever wondered if people love you for who you really are… or for the version of yourself you've learned to show them?
The strong one. The funny one. The peacemaker. The one who never says no. The one who smiles even when something hurts.
Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to hide parts of ourselves just to feel accepted. And sometimes, those habits follow us into adulthood, shaping our relationships, boundaries, and even how we see ourselves.
In this episode of Real Life With Lan, we're having an honest conversation about the masks we wear, the family patterns we normalize, and the difference between being liked and being truly known.
Because the real question isn't just why you created the mask.
It's whether you're still wearing it when you no longer need to.
You deserve relationships where you can be yourself without constantly performing.
You shouldn't have to abandon yourself to belong. 🤍

Have you ever wondered why something that seems completely normal to YOU can be such a big problem for somebody else?
Or why you and your spouse can have the SAME conversation and walk away with two completely different understandings of what just happened? 😂
Here's something I've learned...
We don't enter relationships empty-handed.
We bring our upbringing, childhood experiences, family traditions, expectations, beliefs, and even behaviors we didn't realize we learned.
Some of those things are beautiful. Others? Well... they can create some serious problems when we don't recognize them.
And sometimes we're so busy trying to figure out what's wrong with the OTHER person that we forget to look at what WE might be bringing into the relationship.
In this episode, I'm sharing some of my own experiences, including lessons from my marriage, and how the way we were raised can shape how we communicate, handle conflict, and see the world.
Because sometimes the problem isn't that we don't love each other.
It's that we're looking at the same situation through two completely different lenses. 👓
And maybe it's time we check our own prescription.
🎧 Come hang out with me on Real Life With Lan.
What's one behavior or belief you brought into a relationship that you didn't realize came from your upbringing?
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. ❤️

What happens when life throws you right back into survival mode?
September was a lot.
My husband unexpectedly lost his job, our already-stretched budget suddenly felt even tighter, we were managing family life with one vehicle, my baby got sick, schedules were changing—and my brain immediately did what it has learned to do:
Fix everything.
I started applying my husband for 30+ jobs a day while looking at our finances, trying to stretch what we had and asking God what we were supposed to do next.
Three days later, a phone call came from somewhere I wasn't expecting.
And the opportunity that followed didn't just solve the problem I had been praying about. It helped solve problems I hadn't figured out yet.
In the very first episode of Real Life With Lan, I'm talking about survival mode, faith, control, motherhood, money, starting over, unexpected doors—and what I'm learning about trusting God with the things I can't control.
Because I'm realizing something:
Just because you can't see movement doesn't mean things aren't moving.
And I don't want my story to only be about how many hard things I survived.
I want it to be about the life I finally learned to live.
If you're working, praying, building or waiting for your own door to open, this episode is for you. 🤍
Follow Real Life With Lan and come build what's next with me.
Starting over doesn't mean starting from zero.
